So many moments of JOY!
Secondary
I’m delighted to let you know that the pace of work has not let up in the slightest! To return to the theme of the New Testament distribution from last month, I have now offered these to around 930 pupils across the borough, nearly all of whom are from Year 8, with the express instruction to only take it if they intend to read it.
Current total is that 562 people have taken one, and we can only pray that they will now do what we so long for – open it and read it! And once read, that they will experience the life-changing impact of meeting the real and risen Jesus.
I’ve had so many moments of joy during this process, and those of you whom I’ve met have heard me expound at some length about how much impact there has been across the borough. Some of you have been very graciously patient with me! And what’s also exciting to report is that we are seeing significant change in some of our CU groups.
Greenshaw
From scratch we now have a vibrant, growing group for Year 9s and 11s on a Wednesday lunchtime. This week 15 attended, and they closed the session in prayer for each other in twos and threes, truly wonderful to be a part of.
Cheam High
From what was a small group of Year 9s, 10s and 11s, we now have around 13 attending on Thursday lunchtimes, with several of no faith whatsoever joining us.
Harris
An ex-pupil has returned to the school to offer help in starting a CU, and, praise God, they allowed this, and a brand new group started last week at Friday lunchtime.
I have completed a series of Science and Faith lessons at Sutton Grammar with Year 9, and invited all the boys to consider the foundations of whatever belief system they have, including their reliance on the ‘science’ that underpins it. We have had lots of interesting questions and several of the boys openly began to question their absolute belief in the ‘answers’ that science had apparently given them.
I am currently in the middle of my series of Sex and Relationships workshops with Year 10 at Cheam High, and I openly challenge them all to be mindful of the decisions they are making/may make in this area, and I encourage them to realise that they don’t have to copy the crowd.
Please Pray for:
-
Impact of the New Testaments, may they be read and understood.
-
Our growing CU groups, that pupils may be both encouraged and challenged.
-
Our smaller CU groups, that pupils may know the joy of being one of His disciples in what may feel like a difficult environment.
-
That the message of the true meaning of a sexual relationship, founded on love for one another and rooted in the knowledge of the one who created us, may be heard, especially by those who are listening to other voices convincing them of a different path.
-
Sex and Relationships series for Year 10 at Oaks Park on the 1st — please pray for the same impact to be had there.
-
Greenshaw have booked a ‘Resurrection’ workshop for their Year 8s, 11 classes in total. Please pray that the truth of the resurrection will be presented to them clearly and they may consider this to be the most probable explanation for the empty tomb.
-
NTs offered to the Year 8s at Greenshaw — please pray that many will decide to take one because they want to find out what it actually says.
-
Our CUs which continue to meet right up to the final week. Please pray that each one will have pupils experiencing the joy of knowing that He is Lord and Saviour.
-
Our giving from churches across the borough remains strong, but we do need to consider what God wants us to do in the upcoming months. I have been covering the role of Secondary Worker for some time now, but I know for certain that I am not the medium-term answer, and we would dearly love to employ a specific individual once again, but simply do not have the funds. We will be looking to find a way to address this over the next few months — please pray that God will direct us and we will respond to Him.
-
Please continue to pray for opportunities to develop in all areas of activity with our children and young people. We have many Christian teachers, some of whom are actively able to talk about their own faith, but there are others who feel less able. Please pray that any who know Jesus in our schools may be empowered to speak words of wisdom, peace and love as we journey towards Christmas.
Simon

Please pray for:
- THANK YOU GOD for the joyful time Maisie, Abby and the whole Primary Volunteer team have had leading the 2 x Y3 Bible Explorers Workshops; 1 x Y1 Creation Treasure Hunters Workshop; 8 x Y2 Discover Christmas Workshops AND 5 x Y5 Ordinary Extraordinary Christmas Workshops in November! God has been so faithful to us in keeping us in good enough health to fulfil all of these planned bookings and the feedback from schools has shown how much the children and staff have been enjoying these workshops! Praise God!
- PLEASE PRAY for the Christmas Bookings we have scheduled for December. We have 4 more Y2 Discover Christmas Workshops & 9 more Y5 Ordinary Extraordinary Christmas Workshops booked in over the next 3 weeks, which gives so many opportunities for children within the borough of Sutton to hear the true Christmas Story and to come to know God as their Saviour and friend forever. Please pray for the logistics of timings and booked out spaces within the schools to all run smoothly and for our working relationships with each school to be strengthened with every visit to their site.
- PLEASE PRAY for BLAST (Biblical Living And Story Telling), our weekly lunchtime club at Brookfield Primary School. Lisa, Simon & Maisie have had such lovely discussions with the children over the past month as they continue to explore more BIG questions within the Christian faith. An example from last week is the amazing discussion the children had around the question of ‘Does God ever make a mistake?’ The conclusion drawn was ‘No. he doesn’t’ but the children expanded their thinking even further on this as they touched on the importance of grace, forgiveness and resilience when we make mistakes. PRAISE GOD that they know that God is always a God of second, third and fourth chances (and even more!) because they are so LOVED by Him! Please pray that the children engage in even more brilliant discussions over the next 2 weeks of meeting together before the Christmas break!
Above all else, PLEASE PRAY that in all the plans and bookings and busyness of December, that Maisie, Abby and the Primary Volunteer team take the time to centre themselves on the JOY of Christmas, which is fast approaching. May we all take time to prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of the Saviour being born all those years ago, all in the knowledge that He is alive today and with us as our Forever King!
Primary Assembly Prayer Requests:
Good news! Good news! He has come for everyone! For God has sent His only Son!
-
PRAISE GOD for so many opportunities to share the good news of Jesus’ birth! – We are having a wonderful half term, encouraging staff and children as they wait to celebrate Christmas.
-
PLEASE PRAY for our primary assemblies; for staff and children to be reminded of the reason for the celebrations and to know that, just as God’s people waited for Jesus’ birth, we also wait eagerly for His coming again.
- PLEASE PRAY that school communities would be strengthened and blessed in the final weeks of term, knowing God’s peace and love.
- PLEASE PRAY for health, strength and protection over our primary team. It’s a busy time of year and we want to be able to fulfil all our commitments!
Thank you for your ongoing prayers!
Maisie and Abby
