And we return from summer!!

So we return after, for some of us at least, what was a very lengthy half term. Nearly all the secondary schools and some of the primary had 2 weeks, which meant the end of October was a little quieter, but the first 2 weeks were full on as usual!

I completed my workshops in Oaks Park regarding Knife Crime and County Lines, and was struck by how many of them really wanted to engage with the topic, and how important it is to allow them to discuss these issues in a safe, supportive environment.

Many of them expressed their own concerns about living in an area which, although actually quite low in terms of incidents being reported, still causes some of them fear to even be out.

Several teachers told me how much they enjoy the sessions themselves, and feel that each one engages really positively with the pupils, and they see SSW as an organisation that really cares. An illustration of this is that I’ve been invited to speak this Wednesday, 4th November, to all staff at Cheam High to explain how SSW have been delivering LIFE lessons to the pupils there for 9 years now, and what we are trying to do with each session.

Please pray that I may convey that our motivation comes from knowing each child is loved by God, and deserves to be given the support and encouragement necessary to flourish, as they are created in His image and have value in His eyes.

Each SSW worker is seen in an incredibly positive light by the staff at both schools, and we are given so many opportunities to talk about Jesus; please pray that as a result of my presentation we might be privileged to witness even more!

As an extra testimony to our presence in these 2 schools, over 380 New Testaments have been taken by Year 8 pupils. I have also been told by several teachers that the children are getting them out whilst in the school and exploring passages even in the middle of lessons!

Please continue to pray that they will find Jesus within the pages, and be encouraged to ask Him to step out of the book into their heart….

Discussions for a CU at Oaks Park continue. Please pray for whatever the blockage is to be removed!

The CU at Carshalton Girls has had to take a break for a while, and we’re not really sure why. Please pray that we may be invited back in once more to continue what has been a very positive relationship for many years.

I am speaking at Carshalton Boys 6th form assembly on Thursday 5th November, inviting the boys to come along to the CU (Engage). Please pray for a response.

I am starting another marathon series of workshops at Oaks Park and Cheam High this month, this time the year 10 session on Sex and Relationships. Always a tricky one to negotiate, I’m regularly told by teachers that they really value me coming in to address this as it is so much better when someone from an outside agency delivers this rather than them, as it allows the pupils to open up a bit more.

Once more, please pray that I might communicate a message of hope, based on knowing our true value to God, and therefore to each other. I have also been asked to weave something on Stalking in as well – tricky! Please pray that I might find a way.

In the week starting 23rd I’m at Overton Grange delivering their assemblies on the topic of ‘Respect and Kindness’. Please pray for the opportunity to talk about the kindness found in knowing the love of God and expressing that love through the communities and relationships we have with each other.

Last month I asked for prayers re a Sutton Grammar Science and Faith lesson. It always interests me when I deliver such a lesson and find so many pupils already believe in a creating God, as is the case at Sutton GS. Many of them are Muslim or Hindu background, so the discussions always take a different angle than a class where the prevailing attitude is different.

Please pray that I might have found a way to encourage those boys to explore the God of the Bible, and find out more about Him.

I also asked for prayers for Nonsuch Girls, that they might contact me again. Nothing yet, please keep praying!

I have spoken at Sutton Christian Centre and Horizon Church this month, and been delighted to engage with so many supporting believers who genuinely want out work to flourish.

Please consider becoming part of our Giving of the 5000 campaign, and help us reach even more pupils and staff with the truth of the Gospel this year and next.

And please continue to pray for our staff and volunteers. There is so much to do, and we are blessed by a wonderful team of workers, but there is always strain, especially when it comes to time and health.

Please pray that we might all be able to support each other as we seek to tell of the amazing God we have found through Jesus.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers!

Primary Assembly Prayer Points:

Praise God for His faithfulness and goodness to us!

We visited Sutton High this week to share our Autumn 1 assembly; the first assembly in more than three years. It was wonderful to see the girls so engaged and enthusiastic; our assembly was very well received and we hope to return again next half term.

PLEASE PRAY that God would bless this school community and enable us to support and encourage the girls and teachers this year.

We also shared our first primary assembly at Malmesbury Primary; the RE lead emailed later to say, ‘Everyone enjoyed the assembly so much and lots of staff were commenting on how engaged the children were as well. We really look forward to the next visit.’

They have now booked assemblies for every half term this academic year!

PRAISE GOD for a positive and growing relationship with another school.

PLEASE PRAY that we would be a blessing to staff and children, and for God to move in this school community.

Now we look ahead to our Christmas assemblies…

‘The angel said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will bring great joy for all the people.

Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.’ Luke 2 v 10-11

We have almost 40 assemblies booked throughout November and December. We will be looking at four themes of Christmas: messages, journeys, visitors and gifts.

As we ask the children to consider who they might send a message to this Christmas time, we are sharing the good news of the Christmas message, that God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Saviour… a good news message for us all!

PLEASE PRAY for open hearts and minds to receive the wonderful message of Christmas; that Jesus came to be our Saviour!

PLEASE PRAY for peace and joy to fill the Sutton schools as they prepare to celebrate Christmas.

PLEASE PRAY for positive ongoing relationships with our regular schools and open doors into new schools.

Primary Schools Prayer Points:

THANK YOU GOD for the amazing first half term of the academic year! In October alone, we have run 7 x Y3 Bible Explorers Workshops, 2 x Creation Treasure Hunters Workshops and 1 x Ask a Christian session and we have been so blessed with enthusiasm and joy in our workshop spaces.

THANK YOU GOD for our first time working with Green Lane Primary for the Y6 Ask a Christian session. Please pray that this can open up doors for us to establish a good working relationship between SSW and the school.

PLEASE PRAY for the volunteer & staff team as we enter into a very busy Autumn 2! In November, we have 17 workshop bookings, followed by another 15 in December. These bookings are predominantly Y2 Discover Christmas and Y5 Ordinary Extraordinary Christmas, with a few Y3 Bible Explorers and Y1 Creation Treasure Hunters thrown in (with 1 x Ask a Christian session for good measure!)

Please pray for good health across the team as we share the GOOD NEWS of Jesus’ birth and encourage children to shine light to the people in their lives.

PLEASE PRAY for our first workshops of the year in Malmesbury Primary. This is our first full academic year of working with this school and it has been a joy so far! Please pray for just as positive response to the Y3 Bible Explorers workshop we have booked in for this month.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers!
